The awards were given for Michelle Flowers-Taylor’s exciting Special Purpose Production, Reimagining Freedom West, which features the activism of 1,000+ multi-cultural residents fighting to protect their homes, and it follows their struggle to advance the $2Billion Freedom West 2.0 revitalization project to deliver on the economic empowerment promises made to them over 40 years ago.

FREEDOM WEST HOMES VOTES TO APPROVE $2 BILLION REVITALIZATION PLAN

The Freedom West Homes Corporation (FWHC), a nonprofit housing cooperative containing 382 housing units located in the Fillmore District, and MacFarlane Partners LLC, an African American owned and operated real estate developer, today announced that Freedom West cooperative members have voted by more than a 2-1 margin to approve Freedom West 2.0 – a concept design and long-term economic sustainability plan developed by MacFarlane Partners.

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE HIGHLIGHTS FREEDOM WEST REDEVELOPMENT

This week co-op shareholders voted to advance a plan from developer MacFarlane Partners and Avanath Capital Management to redevelop the four-block complex built in the wake of the city’s destructive “urban renewal” effort. The $2 billion proposal, which will require city approvals, would replace the existing housing and add 133 affordable units and up to 2,000 market-rate units.
